With all the hoopla about Mardi Gras parades and severe weather interrupting said parades over the weekend, it's not surprising that most of us didn't know there was an election going on.

Fortunately, a few folks in Louisiana's District 47 remembered to go and cast their vote for State Representative and the beneficiary of most of those votes was Ryan Bourriaque. Bourriaque currently serves as the Cameron Parish Administrator for the Cameron Parish Police Jury.

Bourriaque defeated Ben Rivera Jr in the Saturday election by garnering 3,180 votes to Rivera's 1,831. By percentages, Bourriaque earned 63% of the votes cast compared to Rivera's 37%.

The election was held after former State Representative Bob Hensgens won a special election for State Senate. District 47 covers portions of Vermilion, Cameron, and Calcasieu Parishes.
