The Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is expecting 30 to 35 thousand people to attend this weekend’s massive festival just outside Lafayette. Festival Spokesperson Angelique Bernard says an unbelievable amount of mudbugs will be consumed over the three days.

“Around 12 to 15 thousand pounds of live and peeled crawfish.”

But it’s not just the usual boiled affair. Bernard says there’s a little something for everyone.

“Crawfish burrito, crawfish beignet, fried crawfish, crawfish etouffee, shrimp and crawfish jambalaya.”

And it’s not just food. Bernard says festival goers will be treated to an Acadiana specialty.

“We have 30 Cajun and zydeco bands that play over the weekend on three different stages.”

The festival starts today with a celebrity crawfish eating contest.
