Our news team has received numerous reports of shots fired at Brown Park.

According to our media partners at KATC, Lafayette Police are currently responding to a call at Brown Park, but cannot confirm if they are responding to a complaint of shots fired. KATC's Jim Hummel is reporting a 19-year-old was shot, but there are no arrests at this time.

UPDATE: Corporal Bridgette Dugas has confirmed that the shooting victim is a 19-year-old male who has been transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Brown Park is located near the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and E Pont Des Mouton. Witnesses report a huge police presence in the area as well as sources who tell us they heard multiple gunshots in the area.

According to more eyewitnesses, the park was full at the time of the shooting and there were reports of multiple gunshots. Ironically, people on the scene told KATC they were gathered for an anti-gun rally in response to the shooting death of local boxer Brandon Broussard.

After speaking with a relative of Broussard, the parents were unaware of the rally and were not sponsors.

One source described the sounds of gunfire as "a war zone."

Police are asking anyone with information related to this shooting to call the Lafayette Police Department at (337) 291-8600.
