Lafayette School Board members will decide soon whether to extend the contract of Superintendent Burnell Lemoine.  Burnell Lemoine's contract is set to end in December, but board leaders have recommended an extension until the end of May 2012. The board is to consider the recommendation Wednesday and could delay a vote until May 18. Supporters of the idea say it would smooth the transition to a new superintendent.  Lemoine has said he plans to retire when his job in Lafayette ends.  His time as superintendent has sometimes been divisive.  Dissatisfaction with Lemoine has surfaced during board election campaigns and among community groups. The civic group 100 Black Men of Greater Lafayette recently asked that a new superintendent be named.
