UPDATE: The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department released more details about the arrest and raid targeting Cajun Cannabis yesterday.
On April 24, 2019, at approximately 10:50 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted in the 100 block of Congress Street in reference to an ongoing narcotics investigation.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Agents conducted a search of the vehicle, driven by Travis Michael Deyoung, and located the following: 17 Bottles of CBD Oil, 14 Bottles of CBD Gummies, 69 Glass jars of CBD Shatter, 1 Box of CBD mints and one handgun.
A search warrant was also executed on Deyoung’s business, Cajun Cannibis, in the 3800 block of Johnston Street. There, narcotics agents located one handgun, 37,974.1GG (gigagrams) of CBD, less than 1GG of Marijuana, 1,863 capsules containing CBD/THC, 902.2GG of THC/CBD edibles, 155GG of THC/CBD vapes/Shatter, honey containing THC/CBD, mints containing THC/CBD, and dog treats containing THC/CBD.
As a result, Deyoung, 31, was charged with Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Felony, 2 counts), Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of a Juvenile (Felony), Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substances (7 counts, Felony & misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2 counts) and Possession of Marijuana.
Deyoung was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the above mentioned charges. The investigation is ongoing.
The new Cajun Cannabis location on Johnston Street was raided overnight in Lafayette. The raid by Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Deputies came just hours after the owner of the store was arrested on felony drug charges, according to KATC. Travis DeYoung was out of jail Thursday morning when he confirmed the raid to reporters.
The Sheriff's department has not publicly said what they were looking for, what they found or if anything was seized.
According to arrest reports, DeYoung was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail on several drug charges including a felony charge for the manufacture, distribution, and possession of marijuana.
Since the store opened on April 20th, there have been concerns about the legality of the business. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms says there are specific guidelines for the sale of CBD products.
As KATC reported, the store received its official occupancy certificate from LCG on April 18.
