The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team was looking for a good start to their weekend series at Georgia Southern on Friday and narrowly got the win 2-0.

The Cajuns tried to get rolling fast as Raina O'Neal led off the game with a double but then Sarah Hudek hit a line drive that center fielder Freeman Mekhia made a great play on and doubled O'Neal off at second.

In the third inning, it was another neutralized threat as Louisiana had runners on second and third with nobody out and still failed to score.

We would go through the middle innings as UL continued to accumulate traffic on the bases but not able to break through until the sixth. Sarah Hudek led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Baily Curry then singled to move Hudek to third, and Lexie Comeaux was able to produce a run with a ground out to short. 1-0 UL.

In the seventh Alissa Dalton got things going with a two-out triple and got the team a much-needed insurance run for Summer Ellyson when she swiped home as the Georgia Southern catcher dropped the ball.

Louisiana grabbed the lead by two at that point and would go onto win by that score, 2-0 to win their 15th consecutive conference game.

Summer Ellyson would be dominant once again as she pitched the complete game shutout surrendering just three hits and one walk while striking out 10 Eagle batters.

With the win, Ellyson improves to 19-4 and the team is now 27-4 and 10-0 in Sun Belt Conference play.

The next game of the series will be Saturday at 1 p.m.
