Cajuns Get Road Win at Coastal Carolina, 79-77
Happy Birthday, Frank Bartley IV.
The junior celebrated in a big way, hitting two free throws with :17 left enroute to a team high 19 points as Louisiana held off Coastal Carolina 79-77 in Conway, SC Saturday afternoon.
Coastal (14-15, 9-7 Sun Belt) had rallied from an eight point deficit after a Bartley layup with 2.26 to play. Jaylen Shaw hit a layup, Shivaughn Wiggins got an old fashioned three point play with 1:29 to go and after the teams traded baskets, Shaw hit another triple to tie the game with :34 left.
After Bartley's two free throws, Demario Beck went to the free throw line with five seconds to play and missed both freebies. Jay Wright came up with the loose ball and streaked to the other end of the court as the horn sounded.
Louisiana (17-11, 7-8) spotted the Chanticleers an early 4-0 lead then went on an 18-0 run, with Bartley and Justin Miller scoring 14 of points during the run. Th eCajuns maintained a double digit lead through the first half until the 3:16 mark when Colton Ray-St. Cyr hit a jumper to make the score 36-28. The Cajuns led 39-34 at the half.
The Cajuns continued to maintain the lead until Elijah Wilson hit a trey with 7:38 to play which tied the game.CCU took a two point lead on two occasions, but the Cajuns got the lead on a three point play with 4:03 left by Johnathan Stove and the Cajuns never trailed again.
Bartley led the way with 19 points while, while Stove had 14 and Miller added 13. Bryce Washington had eleven rebounds for the Cajuns, who outrebounded the Chants 36-30.
Shaw led all scorers with 22 points on 9-13 shooting. Wilson and Wiggins each had 13 points while Beck added ten and led Coastal with 11 rebounds.
The Cajuns wrap up their road trip Monday at Appalachian State.
