Cam Newton's 2019 season is officially over.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Carolina Panthers have placed their franchise quarterback on injured reserve, effectively ending his season.

Cam played in Weeks 1 and 2 but has been sidelined since with a Lisfranc injury to his left foot. Newton hasn't practiced with the team and has been wearing a walking boot for "several weeks, but the status of his injury didn’t change even after he shed the boot."

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport,

Newton has been frustrated with how slowly his injury was healing. He visited foot expert Dr. Robert Anderson on Friday to get more options on his recovery, and while we don’t know how that visit went, Newton going on IR means that he probably didn’t get the best news.

Cam Newton turned 30 this past May. Will this affect his career long term?

Only time will tell—but either way, the Panthers have a big decision to make as they can potentially save $19.1 million against the cap if they trade or cut him during this offseason.
