Some lawmakers say Acadiana fared well with the new congressional district map which is on its way to Governor Jindal's desk.

Today's edition of Wingin It Wednesday sure got off to a good start, and then things turned rocky.  Panelists Warren Caudle, Carol Ross and Mike Stagg each weighed in on various issues, but yesterday's "Tax Freedom Day" really got them started on slinging a little mud.

There is a glimmer of hope at the state capitol that lawmakers could approve a congressional plan before the session ends Wednesday.  Representative Page Cortez tells KPEL's Suzanne Ferrara where the legislature stands right now.

7th District Congressman Charles Boustany tells KPEL the budget problems facing our country must be dealt with now before matters become worse.  Boustany says budget cutting that occurred on Friday is a first good step, but without more change the country will be in deep trouble.

There is a new show coming to the Heymann Performing Arts Center next week that promises to combine music, lasers, dancing, huge puppets and lots of spectacular magic. Apiyo Obala with the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana says "The Aluminum Show" is not like any show we have seen.

Gas prices are getting higher nationwide and here in Acadiana.

On this morning's edition of The Morning Report with Bernadette Lee and Ken Romero, Fred Reggie joined the show.  Reggie is heading up the 2nd annual ScholarWise fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Louisiana.  Reggie says it called the Anytime, Anywhere, Any School Scholarship.

State Senator Mike Michot joined The Morning Report for another segment of "Acadiana Live" featuring local political leaders.  Michot says the about to be completed special session on redistricting has been intense, and lawmakers have faced scrutiny.

On Saturday April 16th Cajun Field will be the drop off point for household hazardous chemicals during Lafayette Consolidated Government's collection event.  Environmental manager Mark Pope says only those who live in the city limits of Lafayette and the unincorporated areas of the parish are eligible to drop off items like old paint, old electronics, etc.

Lafayette City Parish President Joey Durel joined Bernadette Lee and Ken Romero for another edition of "Lafayette Live" this morning.  Durel answered questions about what would happen if voters do decide to vote in favor of an ordinance to have a separate city and parish charter.

Wingin' It Wednesday panelists started fighting over their differing opinions about the potential shutdown of the federal government and who is to blame.  In addition, the panelists discussed where cuts could be made.  They argue it out:

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Officials tell KPEL News they're not ruling out foul play in the case of a missing woman.

Last night six out of nine members of the Lafayette Charter Commission voted on a proposal to be sent to voters that would call for local government to be governed by a separate city and parish chater.  Currently we have consolidation in Lafayette.

The Charter Commission could take a final vote tonight on a proposal to create separate governmental charters for the city of Lafayette and Lafayette Parish.  The panel was leaning that way when it last met.  Commission member Bruce Conque spoke with Ken Romero and Bernadette Lee about what could happen this evening.
