Champs Sporting Goods Store Burned Amid Protests
Over the weekend another store burning this time in Tampa, Florida. Champs Sports on Fowler Avenue near University Square Mall in Tampa was burned just after midnight Saturday evening.
Police and firefighters were called to the scene where they found the building engulfed in flames as protestors ran out of the store with boxes of shoes. Approximately 300 protestors stood as the store burned.
This morning, Tampa-area football players are helping clean up after the fire.
There were protests around the country over the weekend. At least 75 cities had protests. Many cities have put in place curfews, however, in many American cities protestors are refusing to abide.
There have been more protests since the killing of George Floyd than for the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968.
New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette all had protests over the weekend which were relatively calm. Baton Rouge police did have to line the streets after about a hundred protestors tried to block traffic. In addition, in Baton Rouge, some protestors threw objects at police but were stopped by other protestors who didn't want the situation to escalate.
Americans are admiring Flint, Michigan this morning for the way their protest was conducted. Over the weekend, during the protest in Flint, protestors and police officers walked arm-in-arm with each other.
Derek Chauvin, the police officer who killed George Floyd, has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
