Police response to a vehicle crash in New Iberia on Friday morning (May 10) spiraled into a major security operation after police discovered explosives after retrieving firearms and drugs. According to KLFY News 10, the incident began near the Teche Motel on Fontelieu Drive, just off East Main Street.

Captain Leland Laseter of the New Iberia Police Department told KLFY officers were called to the scene shortly before 7 a.m. when they found a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Beau Broussard, was subsequently arrested after a search of his car uncovered multiple firearms and narcotics.

The investigation quickly escalated as police obtained search warrants for two rooms at the nearby Teche Motel, though no additional contraband was found there. The focus then shifted to two adjacent homes, one belonging to Broussard. It was in one of these residences that police stumbled upon suspected homemade explosive devices, prompting an immediate evacuation of the area.

KLFY notes that authorities, including specialists from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside Louisiana State Police, worked meticulously into the night to remove the explosives safely. By 8 p.m., additional devices were found and neutralized.

Broussard now faces multiple charges related to the drugs and weapons found. See the full updated story here via KLFY News 10.
