Good news for residents who live along the Atchafalaya River in St. Martin Parish. The National Weather Service has lowered the predicted crest for the Atchafalaya at Butte La Rose by more
than two feet. Hydrologist Jeff Graschel says their forecast calls for a crest of 24 and a half feet by next Friday, down from 27 feet which was predicted earlier this week. The crest is expected in five days.  The Corp expects the Atchafalaya to rise dramatically over the weekend with more bays opening at the Morganza spillway.

The National Weather Service has also reduced the predicted crest of the Mississippi River at Natchez.
