BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A 47-year-old Denham Springs man faces federal charges of mail fraud and retaining stolen government property for allegedly selling electronic equipment from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Advocate reports an indictment was returned by a federal grand jury Wednesday in Baton Rouge.

According to the indictment, Raymond L. Beavers served as supervisor of the electronic support unit at the Coast Guard's district office in New Orleans from July 2006 through June 2008.

Between February 2007 and March 2008, Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan A. Stevens says Beavers generated more than $60,000 by selling stolen Coast Guard electronics.

The newspaper reports a woman at Beavers' household said Thursday he was offshore, but promised to forward requests for comment to him by cellphone and email. Beavers did not respond to those requests.
