VIDALIA, La. (AP) — Concordia Parish law enforcement and emergency officials are joining a campaign to raise cancer awareness — by letting their beards grow.

Concordia Chief Deputy David Hedrick says that police in Vidalia, Ferriday and Ridgecrest have agreed to participate in the "No-Shave November" campaign, along with some area fire departments.

In Hedricks' words, they've all agreed to "look raggedy" in order to raise cancer awareness.

They will also be part of a fund-raising effort.

Participants are being asked to donate $20 to the Concordia Sheriff's Office, to be donated to the American Cancer Society. And anyone who wants to show support can make a donation as well.
