Distribution Site for Farm Supplies Open in Lacassine

Many South Louisiana farm families are not only struggling to repair damages to their homes following Hurricane Laura, they are struggling to repair their farms and fences following the devastation of the storm as well. Fortunately, a distribution site for donated agricultural supplies has been established in Lacassine.

Items like fencing materials, hay, livestock feed, and other important items farmers and ranchers need to maintain their operations are available. The best part is these items are free for those who meet the criteria to receive help.

The distribution site is located at the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry's Lacassine Industrial Park in Jefferson Davis Parish. The supply donation project is a collaborative effort between LDAF and the Louisiana Cattleman's Association along with the Farm Bureau Federation and the LSU AgCenter.

The group says supplies donated from other farm families and organizations throughout the country are arriving daily. All affected producers need to do to receive assistance is apply. That can be done by calling (225) 405-4157. You may also use that number to arrange a donation to the group's efforts.

Those interested in determining their eligibility to receive donated items will need to visit this website. The deadline to apply for supplies is September 30th. Once your application has been made it will be reviewed and the kind of relief and assistance you are entitled to will be determined.

Personally, I think this is just another example of how the very worst brings out the very best. Almost all of the supplies and items donated to this effort come from other farm families. They are the families that understand and appreciated the struggle our Louisiana farm families are going through.
