BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Dow chemical is increasing its contributions and donating an additional $1 million to establish a student leadership center at the Patrick F. Taylor Hall for the LSU College of Engineering.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports the center will house up to 15 engineering student organizations.

In February, LSU announced it had met its $50 million fundraising goal for the college renovation and expansion, prompting the state to match the privately-raised funds. The expansion will add nearly 80,000 square feet to Taylor hall, doubling the space for the College of Engineering.

More than 450 private individuals and corporate donors have pledged about $52.5 million. Dow's contribution will receive the one-to-one state match.

The College of Engineering launched the fundraising campaign when Phyllis Taylor gave a $15 million gift, the largest single donation.
