Tony Tramel, Director of the Traffic & Transportation Department, announced today the Jefferson Street (downtown) Post Office has moved into the new Rosa Parks Transportation Center facilities.  This move occurred this past weekend. Traffic and Transportation Department personnel are scheduled to move into the second floor of this facility by the end of this week. The existing Postal Service building, originally built as a grocery store in the mid 1980’s and later used as a State Office building and offices for several departments of Lafayette Consolidated Government, will be demolished in January to make way for a larger well landscaped parking area.  An addition to this new building is also underway to house of Acadiana Open Channel.  The total facility should be complete within the next 12 months at a total cost of approximately $10M and is financed with a combination of funding from the Federal Transit Administration, Lafayette Public Trust Finance Authority, Lafayette Consolidated Government, and Federal Stimulus grant funding.
