Saints quarterback Drew Brees was once on the same side as Antonio Brown when it came to the new helmet rules. He understands them now, though.

Brees was one of 32 players that wore what is now an illegal helmet last season. You've probably heard the stink Antonio Brown has been putting up saying he wants to wear his old helmet because he doesn't like the new ones.

Four or five years ago, Brees tried out the new helmet after being pushed by coaches to do so. But what made him keep his old faithful? A comment from wide receiver Lance Moore.

He's like, 'Bro, I cannot take you seriously wearing that helmet. I just can't. I can't even process the play you just said. I can't look at you the same,'" Brees recalled with a laugh. "So I was like, 'Agh, forget the stupid helmet. You know, go back to my old school one.' Rocked it for four more years.

Several older helmets were banned for the upcoming 2019 seson. Antonio Brown has been the most vocal about keeping his old helmet. Among other holdouts on the new helmets are Saints running back Alvin Kamara, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Brees made the transition to his new helmet and says that it's comfortable and didn't have any trouble adjusting to it.

It was more so the fact that it just looks like I'm going to Mars instead of playing a football game, you know?" Brees said.

He added later: "Feels good, just looks weird.

Comfort and familiarity to your helmet is what Brees looks for, but he's not about to petition the league as Brown did.

Worry about things you can control," Brees said. "I didn't really control that one, right? They were outlawing it. They scan your head and they do all this fancy stuff. And I figure if it's if it's going to help protect me a little bit more then that's probably a good thing.
