Lafayette Police want to make citizens aware of a scam dealing with driveways, and Corporal Paul Mouton says the suspects are mostly taking advantage of older citizens.

Mouton says they received several reports last month about repair scammers targeting people in Lafayette.  The way the scam works, is that the suspects would come to a home offering to repair cracks in a homeowner's driveway without giving a quote.  The scammers would then repair the cracks and demand payment for their work. Mouton says the work was of poor quality.

Police are asking residents to remember to always ask for references, to know who you are doing business with, and to check with the Better Business Bureau of Acadiana about the validity of the company offering to do repair work.

Mouton says in the cases they are investigating, the suspects involved claim to be from Indiana.
