If you've traveled that route of I-10 in the past few months you've noticed that it feels like you're driving through a level of Mario Kart with all the twists, turns and lane shifts. DOTD is working on widening I-10 in that 18-mile stretch with a $300 million project that will take a few years (possibly longer depending on weather conditions).

In the end I-10 between Lafayette and the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge will go from four lanes to six lanes with new pavement that was critically needed. Keep in mind that the speed limit has dropped from 70 to 60 in that stretch during construction.

Drivers should be aware of workers in the area and always proceed with extra caution.
