Election Update – Statewide and Parishwide (Lafayette) Final Results
Governor
The Associated Press has called the race for Democrat John Bel Edwards over Republican David Vitter (54%-46%). In concession speech, Vitter stated he will not run for re-election in U.S. Senate.
Lieutenant Governor
The Associated Press has called the race for Republican Billy Nungesser over Democrat Kip Holden (57%-43%).
Attorney General
The Associated Press has called the race for Republican Jeff Landry over incumbent Republican Buddy Caldwell (57%-43%).
House Representative - District 45
With 100% reporting, Republican Jean-Paul Coussan has defeated Republican Andre Comeaux by 260 votes.
House Representative - District 40
Democrat Dustin Miller has defeated Democrat Donovan Hudson 56% to 44%.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff
With 99% reporting, Republican Mark Garber has defeated Republican Chad Leger 54% to 45%. Leger has just given his concession speech.
Lafayette City-Parish Council, District 3
With 100% reporting, challenger Democrat Pat Lewis has defeated incumbent Democrat Brandon Shelvin 60% to 40%.
Lafayette City-Parish Council, District 6
With 100% reporting, No Party candidate Bruce Conque defeats incumbent Republican Andy Naquin by 44 votes to reclaim Lafayette City-Parish Council District 6 seat.
Lafayette City-Parish Council, District 8
With 100% reporting, Republican Liz Webb-Hebert defeats Republican Gerald Judice 54% to 46% to become second woman elected to Lafayette City-Parish Council under current Charter.
Town of Duson - 4% Hotel Tax
The tax was approved by a margin of 70% to 30%, or 193 "Yes" votes to 83 "No" votes.
Amendments to Lafayette City-Parish Council Charter
Both amendments were passed by similar percentages, 62% to 38%. One amendment will change the name of "Lafayette City-Parish President" to "Lafayette Mayor-President." The other amendment will expand the five-person planning and zoning commission to seven.
7.27 Mills Property Tax Renewal - 10 years
Voters approved the tax renewal that funds day-to-day operations for the Lafayette Parish School System by a 62% to 38% margin.
