Entergy Seeks To Recover $6 Million In Lost Revenue From 2016 Flooding
If Entergy gets their way, thousands of Louisiana customers will have a surcharge added to their upcoming utility bills. The Advocate reports the company is asking state regulators to allow it to charge nearly a half million customers in an effort to recoup $5.9 million in revenue the company claims it lost during the historic flooding of 2016. Parts of Louisiana got over 20 inches of rain in a 2 day stretch, beginning August 12, 2016. More than 109,000 homes, and 6,000 businesses were flooded, resulting in an estimated $15 billion in damages. The Public Service Commission banned the utility from disconnecting customers for non payment, effective August 17th, 2016 through March, 2017. Entergy proposes to bill the surcharges over a 12 month period. The PSC will vote on the proposal in September.
