EUNICE, La. (KPEL) -- A Eunice man accused of murdering his wife was arrested by police in Shreveport Saturday, according to police.

Deputy Chief Varden Guillory with the Eunice Police Department said officers were called out to the Prairie Street home and discovered the body of a woman. During the course of their investigation, police learned their primary suspect was the dead woman's husband, Robert Lee Heard.

Guillory said Heard has an extensive criminal history. Heard was arrested in California on a second degree murder charge. He had also been arrested in 2003 by Shreveport Police on an attempted first degree murder charge, Guillory said. Heard was released from jail on that charge in July of 2011.

Guillory said Saturday police would travel to Shreveport to transfer Heard back to Eunice. He will face a charge of first degree murder, Guillory said.
