EUNICE, La. (KPEL) -- A man has been arrested on charges of second degree battery after he threw a cup of hot coffee at the cashier of a convenience store.

Deputy Chief Varden Guillory with the Lafayette Police Department says 56-year-old Timothy Longman apparently didn't like how expensive his cup of coffee was.

He proceeded to curse out the cashier, and then he threw the coffee on her. Guillory says the cashier received blistering to the front of her torso.

Customers tried to stop Longman, but he fled the scene as police were being called, Guillory says.

As police were searching for him, Longman went to Eunice City Hall on other business where he was quickly identified and taken into custody.

Longman was booked into the Eunice City Jail on charges of second degree battery, disturbing the peace, and theft.
