Additional Information

One of Lafayette’s most memorable and popular charitable events has returned to pay honor and tribute to Jewell Parkerson Lowe, longtime philanthropist and founder of 232-HELPLA211. In 1965, the Louisiana Department of Hospitals approved and funded the Southwest
Louisiana Education and Referral Center. It was Louisiana’s first I&R Service and the fourth in the nation. If she saw a need, Jewell wanted a solution. She was instrumental in founding the nation’s first outpatient, mental health treatment center which opened in Lafayette in the early
sixties. In the early seventies, while on a trip to London, Jewell learned of a new concept to care for the dying and their families. She brought that concept, now called Hospice of Acadiana, to Lafayette and helped it take root. In 1992, Lowe started the “Anything Is Pastable” event to benefit her organization 232-HELPLA211, Acadiana’s first comprehensive referral center in the health and social services fields. Known as the event of the season, “Anything Is Pastable II” will again feature award winning Acadiana chefs showcasing their own pasta dishes, along with an exciting silent auction and a live auction with one-of-a-kind items which will surprise and thrill you.

Senator Fred Mills and Secretary of Natural Resources Scott Angelle share the duties of Master of Ceremonies and Auctioneer. The auctions will focus on the jewels of Acadiana – our art, food, people, and culture. The highlight of the Live Auction will be the Jewels of Jewell – donated by Mr. Bob Lowe from his wife’s unique collection.

Participating Restaurants: Antoni’s , Bailey’s Grill, Bella Figura, Fezzo’s, Imonelli’s, Mazen
Grill, Mr. Keet’s 2, Nash’s Restaurant, Petroleum Club of Lafayette, Peter Piazza, Jr., Ruth’ Chris and Zea.

Former Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco worked hard to maintain funding for 232-
HELPLA211….”Jewell was a remarkable lady with a compassionate heart. Her legacy lives on in the work being done by 232-HELPLA211, easing suffering and providing hope….”

The event will take place on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette. Doors open at 6:30 PM.

Tickets are just $125 per person – tables of eight are $1,000. Sponsorships are desirable and available. For more information, contact Rae Logan at 205-6008 or Maria Placer at 205-6003.
