LEESVILLE, La. (AP) — A former Leesville chief of police is accused of taking money from the Leesville DARE program.

Vernon Parish authorities tell the American Press Bobby Hickman turned himself in to state police on Tuesday to face charges of felony theft over $1,500 and malfeasance.

A state police report says Hickman was arrested as the result of a joint investigation of the state Attorney General's Office, federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents, the U.S. Attorney's Office Western District, Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office and the Leesville Police Department.

In June, Hickman pleaded guilty to a federal count of unlawful possession with a firearm. He faces up to five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both, and up to three years of supervised release on that charge.
