Fauci Thinks ‘Degree of Normality’ Coming In 2021 With COVID
One of the Federal Government's leading experts on COVID-19, Dr. Anthony Fauci, appeared today at the White House Press Briefing to bring an update to the pandemic. An update that seemed much more upbeat than we're used to seeing from the doctor.
During Fauci's comments, he surprised many with his latest estimates on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, herd immunity, and when we will get back to "normal".
Part of the near enthusiasm from Fauci likely had to do with an Executive Order signed by President Joe Biden, to enact the Defense Production Act for the purposes of increasing vaccine production. This move will help further increase the ramp up in production from companies like Pfizer and Moderna, which will push the country to the vaccination levels Dr. Fauci was discussing during the briefing.
Dr. Fauci made headlines by suggesting that the country could return to a "Degree of Normality" by the fall if the vaccine rollout goes according to plan. That plan would be to ramp up vaccinations to get at least 70% of the population vaccinated by summer.
However that 70% number may be up for debate, because it's unclear if that's 70% of the total population, just adults, or of those who have not contracted and recovered from the virus. Previous research has suggested the number to achieve herd immunity could be as low as 64% of US adults.
No matter what the exact percentage is, based on the direction Dr. Fauci is currently pointing to, we're going to be out of the pandemic sooner than many believed.
