Fire Shuts Down Lafayette Compost Facility

The Lafayette Consolidated Government compost facility is shut down temporarily.

A fire sparked on Tuesday afternoon in Allied Waste facility's tub grinder. The tub grinder is used to process the waste and turn it into compost. Environmental Quality Manager Mark Pope says they need to fix the damage before they reopen the facility again. Waste will be tranported by Allied Waste to alternative disposal sites while repair are being made.
