A former softball player at a state college recently picked-up a big honor, helping her team win on the international level.

Erika Piancastelli, who played at McNeese from 2015-2018, recently helped Italy to win the 2019 European Championship, while being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, in the process.

A native of Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, Piancastelli his .559 in the tournament, to go along with 10 home runs and 21 runs batted in.

Italy, who captured their 11th European Championship, now advances to compete in the Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier Tournament, which begins on July 23.

A four-time Southland Conference Player and Hitter of the Year at McNeese, Piancastelli is one of only nine hitters in NCAA history, at the Division I level, to finish her career with at least a .400 batting average, as well as 200 RBI's, 50 home runs, and an .800 career slugging percentage.

In her senior season with the Cowgirls in 2018, Piancastelli hit .375, to go along with 22 homers and 60 RBI's.
