A former officer who pleaded guilty to helping to cover up the deadly shootings of unarmed civilians on the Danziger Bridge is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court.

Michael Hunter was scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 17, but prosecutors said they needed more time to evaluate his cooperation, so it was rescheduled for Wednesday.

Hunter is one of five former officers who have pleaded guilty in the shootings a week after Hurricane Katrina hit. Six other current or former officers also have been indicted on charges stemming from the shootings and alleged cover-up.

Police shot and killed two people and wounded four others on the Danziger Bridge less than a week after the August 2005 storm.
