German Police Seize Neo-Nazi Model Airplane Bomb
BERLIN (AP) — Police in southwestern Germany have seized what they are describing as a "functional" bomb and several model airplanes that neo-Nazis allegedly wanted to use in an attack.
Prosecutors in the city of Freiburg said Tuesday that a 23-year-old man with known links to far-right extremists was arrested on suspicion of commissioning the flying bomb.
A 42-year-old man believed to have built the bomb was detained but later released on bail. Police are also investigating two other men with far-right links.
Police said the bomb's targets were "political enemies" of the neo-Nazis, but gave no further details. Prosecutors' office spokesman Wolfgang Maier said the bomb could have caused damaged in a 65-100-foot radius."
According to official figures, Neo-Nazis committed over 800 violent crimes in Germany last year.
