Healing4Heros is a Georgia based non-profit organization that provides service dogs to returning military personnel.  Joining us today on 'Mornings With Ken & Bernie' was Alicia Chadwick local representative for Healing4Heros.  According to Chadwick, the organization rescues dogs from animal shelters and trains them to be service dogs for returning veterans.  Chadwick said,

"We pair veterans who have been either physically wounded, have post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injury with service animals that we rescue from shelters."

Chadwick said the dogs go through a canine "good citizens' training and then they are trained how to help physically or mentally injured vets.  The dogs can be trained to help the physically disabled with tasks like opening doors, turning on lights and even reminding the vet to take prescribed medications.  In addition Chadwick says the animals learn the triggers that bring on anger or anxiety and can help soothe the vet to prevent major crises.
