We received an email telling us about a display of historic festival photographs this weekend, April 9th, during Art Walk in Downtown Lafayette.  Here's the information:

The 30th Anniversary Special Exhibits Committee in cooperation with Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA), will display the 30th Anniversary Photographic Retrospective Saturday March 9th, 2016 from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the 100 Block of West Vermilion Street.  The 100 block of West Vermilion in front of Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA), will be closed to accommodate the exhibit this Saturday April 9th, 2016 for the Art Walk.  This Exhibit consist of 20 Coroplast Panels (42” X 93”) on stands with historical Festival pictures printed on the back and front of each board.

The 30 year Photographic Retrospective was put together by enlisting the various Official Festival Photographers for each year and having them select the 20 best photographs for each year.  The committee enlisted Professor Lynda Frese with the Department of Visual Arts with the University of Louisiana Lafayette and her classes of Intermediate and Advance Photography to be curators of the exhibit.  Professor Frese and her classes chose the final pictures to be printed on the boards and determined the arrangement of the photographs on the boards. Then they worked on Identifying the groups or person pictured in the photographs to label the photographs.

Phil Lank one of Festivals Founders and Allen Bacque a local Architect coordinators of the Photography Exhibit, worked on the design and concept of how and where to display the photographs for the exhibit.   The design team needed to solve several criteria and restrictions including a small budget to represent 30 years of Festival International in Photographs. Determining where these large boards could be displayed with limited space for such a large exhibit, trying to minimize the impact of putting them out at the beginning of the Festival each day and picking them up each evening to store them till the next day.

The exhibit will be displayed for the first time this Saturday for Art walk, please come out an take advantage of Art Walk to get a chance to see this historical exhibit for the 30th Anniversary of Festival International.  This is an exhibit of the 30th Anniversary Special Exhibits Committee of Festival International de Louisiane.

During Festival the Exhibit will be displayed in front of the Central Fire Station at Vermilion and Lee Avenue across form Don’s Seafood. If you can’t come out this Saturday to Art Walk to see this exhibit please see it during Festival starting Thursday April 21st, 2016 after 5:00PM and Vermilion Street is closed to through traffic and will be displayed each day during Festival when the road is closed to through traffic.
