Hornets Humiliate Pistons, Happy Mardi Gras!
Without Eric Gordon (resting knee), the New Orleans Hornets were playing their second game of a road back-to-back last night in Detroit. The Pistons jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, causing Hornets head coach Monty Williams to call a timeout. It seemed the odds were not stacked in his team's favor. Then, they dominated next 45 minutes. From defense to rebounding, the Hornets punished the Pistons all night, particularly in the paint.
New Orleans' frontcourt of Anthony Davis, Robin Lopez, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Ryan Anderson combined for 67 points, 36 rebounds, and 10 blocks.
While Anderson nailed 5 three-pointers, a category he leads the league in, his coach reminded everyone after the win how much more there is to his game.
"Ryan's not just a shooter, despite what people think. There was a play tonight where he pump-faked the defender and then went to the rim and dunked," remarked Williams. "I don't think anyone in the building expected him to dunk that one."
The Hornets return home for a matchup tomorrow night against the Portland Trail Blazers at 7:00, then will get some much needed rest during the All-Star break. Anderson and Davis will participate in All-Star weekend in Houston, while the rest of the team will get some R & R. After the Blazers, the Hornets don't play until February 19th when they'll host the Chicago Bulls.
