BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana labor officials say first-time claims for jobless benefits edged up at mid-month.

The state Workforce Commission says that for the week ending Dec. 18, there were 4,262 initial claims in Louisiana. The previous week saw 4,231 filings.

The four-week moving average of initial claims increased to 49,954 from the previous week's average of 49,366.

Continued unemployment insurance weeks claimed for that week increased to 50,978 from the previous week's total of 50,174, according to a Workforce Commission news release. For the comparable week ending Dec. 19, 2009, the figure was 65,317.
