Popeyes was founded on June 12, 1972 in Arabi, Louisiana. It was initially called Chicken on the Run. Owner Al Copeland wanted his restaurant to compete with Kentucky Fried Chicken.  However, that didn't work out and he closed his restaurant.  Just to open it back up four days later rebranded as Popeyes Mighty Good Chicken.

In 1975 Copeland renamed his business to Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken and began franchising the restaurant in 1976. I've always wondered by Popeyes is spelled without an apostrophe.  Well, in an interview, Copeland claimed that at the time he was "too poor" to afford an apostrophe.  I love his sense of humor.

One of my favorite YouTubers named Ken Domik does a series on his KBD Productions TV channel where he stealth camps at a restaurant's parking lot and eats their food for 24 hours. You had me hook line and sinker Ken, stealth camping and food are my two favorite types of videos to watch on YouTube.

In this video, Ken travels to Popeyes to live and eat there for 24 hours. Right out the gate he doesn't waste any time and gets the Popeyes chicken sandwich. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I was never impressed with the regular or spicy Popeyes chicken sandwich. I just don't get it, they have amazing batter on their chicken, why would they use a totally different batter for the chicken sandwich? It boggles my mind.
