On August 5, 2023, Lafayette Police Department officers were called out to respond to a situation involving a fight in the 100 block of South General Marshall Street.

When they arrived on the scene of the domestic disturbance they heard a woman screaming, and they broke down the door of the home according to details in a written statement on a GoFundMe page.

The suspect in the house retreated to a bedroom, the officers were trying to get everyone out of the home safely, and the suspect is alleged to have said he was going to kill everyone.

The suspect is said to have left the bedroom and started shooting a semi-automatic and opened fire on everyone.

Two officers were shot. Bradford was shot in the buttocks and was immediately paralyzed. She was able to drag herself outside and eventually passed out. Another officer took her to the hospital where she underwent a six-hour surgery.

She is doing well but her left foot remains partially paralyzed from a severely damaged nerve in her pelvis as a consequence of being shot.

The treatment she is receiving from a neuro physician in Lake Charles has helped her to regain partial movement, but the therapy is experimental and not covered by her insurance.

Bradford needs some specialized equipment, and her treatment will be between $1,500 -$2,000 each week. She will need weekly treatment for at least a year or more.

One of the most impactful statements that her officer friends shared on the GoFundMe page is the following

Officer Bradford has made a miraculous recovery after nearly dying three weeks after her wedding and two days before her 25th birthday. She would like to continue her journey in growing her family, becoming the competitive CrossFit athlete she once was, and eventually returning to full duty as a police officer to continue to do what she loves, serving and protecting the citizens of her city.

The other officer who was shot received treatment at a hospital and eventually was able to complete their recovery at their home.

Officer Hali Bradford's recovery has lasted a longer time, and she needs help. If you can help, click here for more information about how to donate.
