This is Louisiana, and in this state, we were taught by our parents to be nice and to be HELPFUL. You can see proof of this each day as people will stop to help someone with a flat tire, and someone is always there to help if their vehicle needs a jump to get it restarted.

But in this day and age, we have to be careful, and that's why Darcell Duhon shared what happened to her with KLFY. It's just another reminder that we need to be "on guard" even when someone is asking for help.

What Happened to Duhon and Her Coworker?

They were approached by a man outside of a store at the corner of E Broussard and Johnston Street. He said he needed to jump his vehicle, which was large. She agreed to help. The man was there with his wife, child, and dog.

He said he was going to need an extra boost because his vehicle was a larger make and model so the friend's coworker pulled her vehicle over.

It was during this transition that the man ended up moving behind the vehicles with Duhon in the car hitting the gas pedal. Eventually, the man's vehicle started, and they thought everything was okay.

What Did the Two Discover?

Both people who helped this man noticed almost immediately that they each had a credit card stolen.

Duhon was able to stop any purchases on her credit card right away. The other person didn't lose anything either as there was nothing left on the account.

Thankfully, it ended being a losing proposition for the thief, but it did make Duhon want to speak out so that other people don't fall for this man's tricks.

Why Tell Her Story?

Duhon says she wants everyone to know that something like this can happen to anyone.

She says,

I want the community to be aware of what Is going on. I feel like this was a scam. If he was brazen enough to take both of our cards within a five-minute span. He has done this before.

A check with Lafayette Police officials shows no report was filed.
