(Broussard, Louisiana) - Our friends at Zoosiana have some exciting news, two new pygmy hippos are now at home in Broussard, Louisiana.

If you've been to Zoosiana in recent weeks, you may have noticed that a special habitat had been built for the small hippos and now that space is being occupied.

In a social media announcement, our friends at the zoo say that Bella and Noche are now part of the family at Zoosiana and that they are waiting to meet you.

Zoosiana writes the following about their latest tenants:

'Pygmy hippos are rare and fascinating creatures, with fewer than 3,000 estimated to remain in native habitats. Smaller and more elusive than their larger relatives, pygmy hippos primarily inhabit the dense forests and swamps of West Africa. Unlike the common hippopotamus, which is social and semi-aquatic, pygmy hippos are generally solitary and spend most of their time foraging on land, venturing to the water for cooling off, hydration, and hiding from predators."

Zoosiana Pygmy Hippo Program Coordinator and Lead Keeper Paige Fruge said this about their newest addition, “They have some fun personalities, and I did not expect to have the connection with them that I have already built in a few short weeks. I fully expect our guests will fall in love with them as quickly as we have!”
So, the next time you visit Zoosiana with the kids, be sure to look for and welcome Bella and Noche to Acadiana.

Here's a look at our precious new friends.
