(KTDY) - A new social media trend sweeping the country is putting teens in danger, and police say it needs to stop before someone gets seriously injured.

These days, many will do just about anything on social media to get attention or views, and now the latest trend has some kicking on homeowners' front doors in an attempt to open it or knock it down.

With so many people on edge in this country because of the recent crime rate, this is not smart, and the police are right; someone will get hurt when participating in this new social media trend.

Police say that if caught, those kicking on doors can be arrested and charged with the following: felony burglary, misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief for damaging the doors.

Sadly, two people participating in this social media prank on TikTok in Texas and Virginia have been shot and killed. Now, police hope to put an end to this before more people are hurt.

Authorities are stressing that this is not an isolated issue; these pranks, which some may deem as innocent, are happening in several regions of the country. In California, some teens were arrested after causing damage totaling several hundred dollars to home doors.

So, parents, it is time to talk to your teens and let them know that this "Door Kick Challenge" is dangerous and carries legal consequences. A good conversation with your kid could save you and them a lot of money or perhaps even save their life.

Here's a look at what some are doing across the country that has parents and authorities concerned.
