Thief in Louisiana Steals Locked Truck, Owner Asking for Public’s Help
(St. Martinville, Louisiana) - A truck owner and local businessperson is looking for his truck after it was stolen on Monday night, December 22, 2025.
Scott Horton shared a photo of his stolen truck and a video of the thief. According to Horton, the car was stolen from Wilfred Champagne Road in Saint Martinville.
He tells me that the thieves used a device to unlock and start his truck. Yes, the vehicle was locked, and the keys were not inside when thieves broke in and drove away.
In an update, Scott says that the truck below was last seen on Pinhook Rd. in Lafayette, near Teurlings High School.
If you see this truck in Acadiana, you should contact the Saint Martin Sheriff's Department at (337) 394-3071 or your local police department to report the sighting.
I will add that thieves stole two trucks from this property, but one, a white truck, has already been recovered. The truck you see here has not yet been located.
Here's a look at the thief as he enters and drives away with Horton's truck.
Ways to Protect a Vehicle FromThieves
Police often say that the best way to secure your vehicle from theft is always to lock it and never leave your keys in it. Sadly, llike in this case, thieves are now unlocking and starting vehicles remotely with sophisticated devices.
You should also always try to park in well-lit areas, as light sometimes deters would-be criminals.
Using steering wheel locks is another effective way to protect your vehicle and prevent anyone from driving it away.
