(KMDL-FM) Customers of the international online retailer Amazon who feel they have been wronged by the company could be in line for a nice settlement check, according to information released on the Amazon Prime Settlement through the Federal Trade Commission.

It's estimated that the e-commerce giant will eventually pay the lion's share, possibly more, of a $2.5 billion settlement agreement. That settlement stems from a practice in which the FTC says Amazon enrolled millions of Americans in Prime subscriptions without their consent.

The release from the Federal Trade Commission also suggests that consumers who attempted to cancel their Prime Membership were met with undue difficulty in doing so. So basically, the FTC says Amazon forced you into a subscription you didn't want and then wouldn't let you leave.

How Much Is The Amazon Settlement with the Federal Trade Commission?

The basic nuts and bolts of the settlement breakdown like this. Amazon will be required to pay a $1 billion civil penalty. Before you start shedding any tears for Mr. Bezos and his gang at Amazon, you should know it is estimated that Amazon earns $1.5 billion in profit every week. So, you know that "fine" will "get the company's attention".

Amazon will also have to refund some $1.5 billion to customers who were harmed by the company's "deceptive" practices. This includes the practice of Amazon not letting you cancel.

Who is Eligible for Amazon Settlement Money?

If you signed up for Amazon Prime or you were unsuccessful in your attempts to cancel Amazon Prime anytime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, you can take part in this settlement action.

In many cases, if you're still connected to Amazon, you will get your refund automatically. In other cases, you will need to visit a settlement website to input your information. That claim site is not yet live.

How Much Money Will The Average Consumer Get From the Amazon Settlement?

It is estimated that the average Amazon Prime Member who is compensated by this settlement action will receive up to $51. The money will not be sent or made available until all of the terms of the claim against the settlement have been satisfied.
