Buc-ee’s is Hiring, How Much Could a Louisiana Worker Earn?
Louisiana travelers know that just a few hours west of Lake Charles and just a few hours east of Slidell there is the "holy grail" of bathroom breaks. Of course, we are speaking of the internationally acclaimed roadside "shopping mall" with gas pumps that is Buc-ee's.
The Texas-based travel center makes headlines about once or twice a month here in Louisiana. Most recently we have been treated to news that we won't have to travel to Ruston, Louisiana in the not-to-distant future if we want some Beaver Nuggets purchased in Louisiana. Buc-ee's has revealed they are making plans for an I-10 location of their travel centers near Lafayette. But, the one in Ruston will likely be constructed, completed, and open by the time any South Louisiana location gets rolling.
In a matter of months, Louisiana vacationers headed to the sun and sand of the Redneck Riviera won't have to make a stop at the worst Buc-ee's in the world. That's the location at I-10 Exit 49 in Alabama at Robertsdale. No, there's nothing wrong with the store, it's the influx of people that makes a short bathroom break an hour-long pitstop.
One of the ways that Buc-ee's and their brand have crept into our consciousness is the level of service that is provided at their travel centers. I can't deny that Buc-ee's may be the cleanest Interstate highway stop I have ever experienced and there is a reason. It's Buc-ee-nomics. You see Buc-ee's pays very well and therefore they have a higher caliber of employees. Other businesses should explore that kind of hiring.
How Much Does Buc-ee's Pay Its Employees?
Based on a sign that is displayed at a Texas location the "Beaver" isn't shy about hiring and paying for good employees. The starting pay for a Cashier, Gift Department, Cleaning/Janitorial, Warehouse, and Grocery Stocker starts at $18 an hour. No experience is necessary.
If you are willing to work hard at cleaning bathrooms, you can be on the Buc-ee's restroom crew at $20 an hour. If you are hired for food service and or the car wash at Buc-ee's that pay rate is $21 per hour.
The more responsibility you have the more you can earn at Buc-ee's Team Leads, depending on the Team could earn from $20 to $23 per hour and a Department Manager will be compensated at a rate of $25 to $33 per hour. Meanwhile, an Assistant Food Service Manager could earn anywhere from $33 per hour to $42 per hour.
Keep in mind, these jobs are at a "convenience store". I mentioned the Buc-ee's pay rate to the overnight cashier at a nearby Circle K here in town. She said her check isn't "even sniffing" that kind of compensation.
How Much Can Managers at Buc-ee's Make?
Based on Buc-ee's public display inside their own stores an Assistant General Manager could earn a compensation of $125,000 annually. That is the same compensation that is offered to the manager of the Gift Departments and the Car Wash. The Food Service Manager at Buc-ee's earns $150,000 to $175,000 annually and the head honcho or Big Beaver, the location's General Manager can earn from $175,000 to $225,000 per year.
The company also offers a 401K with a match of up to 6%, three weeks of paid time off, plus there are healthcare benefits available, and yes, Buc-ee's does hire people for part-time work as well.
If you want to apply for the new Mississippi location of Buc-ee's applications are being accepted. If you want to apply for a Buc-ee's gig in Louisiana you're going to have to wait. Things are not that far along in Ruston and Lafayette's location is still in the very early planning stages.
