Furniture Chain Confirms Bankruptcy – Louisiana Stores to Close
Furniture and appliance shoppers in cities such as Lake Charles, Lafayette, Alexandria, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Monroe, Port Allen, and the Greater New Orleans area might soon find themselves with one less option when it comes to furnishing and outfitting their homes. A one-time leader in the furniture and appliance industry has officially confirmed it has filed for bankruptcy protection as of this past Tuesday.
For more than 130 years shoppers across the United States had flocked to Conn's HomePlus stores. That is apparently changing as the store's plan to work through its financial struggles includes the shuttering of some 85 stores nationwide.
Conn's HomePlus currently operates a dozen locations in Louisiana. It has been confirmed that six of those Louisiana locations will be closing. Texas will be losing nine Conn's HomePlus locations while Florida will lose the most stores. As of now, the speculation is that Conn's will shutter 18 locations in the Sunshine State.
The six confirmed Louisiana locations that will be closing include Alexandria, Shreveport, Monroe, Houma, Slidell, and Baton Rouge. As of this report, the remaining six stores will stay open as the company works through the bankruptcy proceedings.
The company also operates Badcock Home Furniture & More and will be closing thirty-five of that store's locations. The Badcock Home Furniture & More brand primarily serves locations in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas.
The Conn's website does not offer explicit details on when stores will be closing. It only notes that "Stores will be closing soon". It is safe to surmise that each location will be offering discounts as inventory is being reduced so savvy shoppers might want to keep an eye out for extra savings.
