Louisiana Lottery Confirms $50,000 Powerball Winner Monday
It was a muggy Monday night in mid-December in Louisiana. There's a fog alert in place for Lake Charles, Jennings, and Dequincy. In Lafayette, the twinkle of Christmas lights is subdued by the heavy holiday humidity. And in Baton Rouge, they are a bit perplexed at the Louisiana Lottery offices. They have a $50,000 lottery prize winner they can't seem to locate and a brand new $50,000 winner that need to get to know.
Monday night is Powerball night in Louisiana and across some 45 states and assorted territories across the nation. Last night the Powerball game featured an estimated annuitized jackpot prize of $58.1 million. The lump sum payout on Powerball for last night was estimated to be $27.1 million.
If you purchased a ticket and played Powerball in Louisiana you'll be pleased to know about 4,000 winning tickets were sold in our state for the December 17, 2024, Powerball drawing. If you missed it, here's how it played out.
Based on information from our sources at Powerball there were no tickets sold across the game's footprint that matched the numbers needed to claim the game's more than $58 million top prize. There was one ticket sold in Colorado that matched all five of the white ball numbers so that Match 5 Million winner would get one million dollars for their two-dollar investment.
Now to the big money winner and what could be a big money loser in Louisiana. The Louisiana Lottery has confirmed that a ticket sold in Chalmette matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball in Monday's game. By rule, that ticket is worth $50,000. If you played Powerball in Chalmette and purchased your Powerball ticket at Mereaux's Food Store on Paris Road, I would pull out my ticket and compare these numbers.

If you think you have a match you'll want to verify those numbers at the Official Louisiana Lottery website or the Powerball website. Those sites are the official sites of record when it comes to verifying your numbers. Plus, if you do have some tickets that you think are winners you can confirm your prize and get details on how to claim that prize.
That takes care of the new $50,000 winner from last night. The Louisiana Lottery is still hoping to hear from a Powerball player who purchased a ticket at a Racetrac Convenience Store on Burbank Drive in Baton Rouge back on July 13th. That ticket also matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball. The $50,000 prize will go back to the lottery if it is not claimed by January 9th, 2025.
Maybe someone is holding on to that ticket for a holiday surprise? Or maybe it's in the console of your car, the pocket of a pair of shorts, or you put it in the junk drawer. It's $50,000, don't miss your chance to claim it.
On Wednesday the Powerball jackpot is expected to grow to at least $69 million for the annuitized jackpot. You only have three more Powerball games between now and Christmas Day so if your plan was to help Santa with a big lottery win, you better get to stepping.
Or, you could play Mega Millions tonight. The jackpot in that game is astronomical. The estimated annuitized prize in that game for Tuesday is $740 million making it a top ten jackpot on the all-time list for that game. The drawing for Mega Millions is tonight at 10 pm.
