Since 2011, Louisiana lottery players in Shreveport, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and countless other communities have been able to play Mega Millions. The multi-state lottery game is one of two "big money" games that lottery players in Louisiana can purchase tickets for through the Louisiana Lottery. The other multi-state lottery game is the Powerball game, which has been in Louisiana since 1995.

So, it's no wonder that, with a 15-year head start, Powerball is the "jackpot" game that most Louisiana players mention when asked about winning the lottery. There have actually been more than a few Powerball jackpot winners in Louisiana in the game's 30 years in the state.

For Mega Millions that is not the case. A Louisiana-sold Mega Millions ticket has never claimed that game's top prize. There was a Mega Millions drawing last night though. And by the headline of this article, I think you might be able to guess where we are heading in this morning's story.

Here's how the drawing unfolded for Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

As much as I would like to report Louisiana's days of being left out in the cold for a Mega Millions jackpot are over, we can't. Our sources inside Mega Millions confirmed that no ticket sold across the game's footprint matched the numbers needed to claim last night's estimated annuitized jackpot of $95 million. Frustrating, I know.

What we can tell you is that a Louisiana-sold ticket earned the largest prize awarded in Tuesday night's Mega Millions draw. There were no Match 5 Million winners in Tuesday's game. So the largest prize from last night was $30,000. This is nothing to sneeze at, especially when you consider only three tickets sold for the game matched the numbers needed to claim that amount.

The Louisiana Lottery has confirmed a ticket sold in the state did match four of the five white ball numbers and the Mega Ball in Tuesday's drawing. By rule, that number match scenario is worth $10,000. But the Louisiana player smartly added the Megaplier option to their ticket which means, in the case of Tuesday's drawing, that the prize amount was multiplied by three.

Here's how the numbers looked to us as the balls rolled out of the hopper.

You may certainly check your tickets against those numbers but if you think you're holding a winner you need to visit the Official Mega Millions site or the Official Louisiana Lottery site to verify that ticket. You can also get some inside information on how to claim your prize at those websites should you have been fortunate enough to win.

Our sources inside the Louisiana Lottery are usually able to relay point-of-purchase information to us in just a few hours after a major drawing but there is a bit of a delay today in getting that information for you. We will update this story as soon as we know where the winner was purchased.
