Louisiana Lottery Confirms ‘Unique’ Powerball Result Wednesday
(KMDL-FM) Louisiana is an enigma wrapped in mystery, and that's just our state's legislature. But in addition to the many fallacies that become law in Baton Rouge, our state is home to some unique events. You can't say every place has Mardi Gras like we have Mardi Gras in Lafayette, Church Point, and New Orleans, can you?
And since what happened in Wednesday's Powerball drawing has only happened less than a handful of times over the past 20 years, we could say that was another unique occurrence. Granted, it didn't just happen in Louisiana, it happened all across the Powerball Lottery footprint. But Louisiana players were certainly the beneficiaries.

Let's just say about 1,429 Powerball players who purchased a ticket via the Louisiana Lottery are going to be pleasantly surprised when they visit their local lottery retailer to cash their tickets in the coming days.
If you missed the drawing for Wednesday, June 4, 2025, here it is. See if you can spot the "unique" aspect of last night's drawing.
I have been following Powerball and the Louisiana Lottery for a couple of decades, and I can count the number of times I have seen the result you just saw on one hand. It just doesn't happen that often. Did you happen to notice?
The Louisiana Lottery and our sources at Powerball confirmed that no ticket matched the numbers needed to claim the $30.2 million jackpot prize last night. There were two Match 5 Million tickets sold for last night's game. Those winners were sold in Maryland and New York.
What Were Wednesday's Powerball Numbers?
Here are the numbers for Wednesday's Powerball drawing:
05 17 23 35 45 Powerball 24 Power Play x10
Okay, I've just shown you the anomaly that we don't normally see in Powerball. Did you notice? Yes, it is the 10x multiplier in the Power Play.
How Rare is a 10x Multiplier in the Powerball Lottery?
The short answer is "very". The game only allows for a 10x multiplier when the jackpot is less than $150 million. Even then, the chances of getting the "ten times" on your prize boils down to a 1 in 43 chance. So, having your winnings multiplied by 10 in Powerball doesn't happen that often at all.
As we mentioned, more than 1,000 Louisiana Lottery players who matched just the Powerball or the Powerball plus one white ball will be arriving at a lottery retailer expecting a payout of $4. Instead, they'll get $40, which is a pleasant surprise.
In Wednesday's other big money games at the Louisiana Lottery, there was no jackpot winner in Lotto, so that game's top prize will climb to $900,000 on Saturday night. Easy 5, the other Wednesday/Saturday game, did not get a jackpot winner either. That game's jackpot will grow to $70,000 for Saturday's drawing.
Friday's Mega Millions jackpot will be $223 million for the annuitized jackpot or $99.4 million for the lump sum payout. Powerball will climb to an estimated $44 million on Saturday. Please remember that lottery games do involve a risk of losing money, and play responsibly.
