Louisiana Powerball Results – Over 2,000 Winners in Monday’s Draw

(KMDL-FM) The Louisiana Lottery has confirmed that the multi-state lottery game Powerball has produced some big wins for Louisiana players in the April 14th drawing. In the past few weeks, Powerball and the Louisiana Lottery have paid more than $200,000 to winners in New Roads, Covington, Downsville, Chauvin, Kenner, and Mandeville.

While those are nice wins, the biggest win in recent weeks has come from the Louisiana Lottery's own Lotto game which created a $2.4 million winner last week. Needless to say, Monday's drawing across Louisiana was lucrative, but not quite that lucrative.

What Was the Powerball Jackpot on Monday Night?

At the time Monday's Powerball drawing went down the estimated top prize for the multi-state game was estimated to be $100.6 million for the annuitized jackpot. If you held the winning ticket and opted for the "cash payout" your prize would have been $45 million.

Our sources at Powerball and the Louisiana Lottery did confirm that not ticket sold across the Powerball footprint or in the state of Louisiana matched the numbers needed to bring the jackpot prize home. There was a Match 5 Million winner that was sold in New York. That ticket not only matched all of the white balls but the player opted for the Power Play which doubled their prize to $2 million.

What Is the Difference Between Powerball and Mega Millions?

The Match 5 Million prize is one of the key differences between Powerball and Mega Millions, the other multi-state lottery game. In Powerball, if you "Match 5" and have the Power Play on your ticket your prize is doubled no matter what the multiplier drawn for the evening happens to be.

In Mega Millions if you "Match 5" your ticket will have a random multiplier assigned to it at the time of purchase. You could win $2 million up to $10 million under the new format in the Mega Millions game.

Speaking of winning according to data provided by our sources at the Louisiana Lottery 2,013 tickets were winners in Louisiana for last night's Powerball game. The largest prize won by a Louisiana ticket was only $300 and only three tickets sold earned that prize.

Of the 2,013 winning tickets sold in Louisiana a little over half of the winners, 753 to be precise, opted for the Power Play function of the game. In my opinion, if you're going to play, you might as well spend the extra dollar for a chance at the bigger prize.
