Louisiana Unclaimed Property Checks
The Louisiana Department of Treasury reports they will be mailing out checks of unclaimed property to every Parish in the state to the tune of $4.4 million.
According to KATC, Louisiana State Treasurer John M. Schroder "These are real checks from the Louisiana Department of Treasury, so we want you to cash them."
Schroder says that roughly about 20% of the unclaimed property checks mailed out every year go uncashed due to people changing addresses or skepticism.
There is currently about $1 billion in unclaimed property in Louisiana.
This unclaimed property gets turned in to the State annually from unclaimed cash and bonds, old bank accounts, utility deposits, stock interests, and more.
