Louisiana beach fans and lovers of the island lifestyle that was made popular by the late Jimmy Buffett have we got good news for you. There is going to be a new Margaritaville Resort and it's going to be very close to a place that almost all of us visit once a year. That place, the Redneck Riviera, also known as the Gulf Coast Beaches of lower Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.

Can you believe it's been almost a year since we lost Jimmy? Buffett died from complications brought on by a rare form of skin cancer in September of 2023. His music, his legacy, and his persona however appear to be primed to live forever. Jimmy Buffett lived the vacation that most of want to take someday.

His songs of life along the beaches, on the water, in the bars, and just contemplating the cosmos affected almost everyone who dropped a needle in the groove on any of his albums. We all longed to live in or at least visit the mythical place that was "Margaritaville".

That was back in the 1970s and early 80s when Margaritaville was just a song by a Mississippi-born troubadour named Jimmy Buffet. In 1985, Margaritaville became a brand when a bar in Key West, Florida started selling t-shirts. Today, the Margaritaville brand includes resorts, campgrounds, hotels, and even cruise ships. Oh, they have restaurants too.

And that's where the good news for Louisiana lovers of Orange Beach, Alabama, and the area around The Wharf comes in. It was announced earlier this week that a new Margaritaville resort will be coming to that entertainment complex with a scheduled opening for 2029. However, the property is hoping to begin welcoming guests with the opening of its first phase in 2027.

The new Margaritaville Resort won't technically be a part of The Wharf but it will be right next door along the Intracoastal Waterway. The resort will have the bars and eateries you'd expect. Yes, there will be live entertainment venues. The guest accommodations will include standard and luxury hotel rooms and single-family resort cottages, and there will be waterfront condos available too.

Guests who stay at the new Margaritaville Orange Beach will be able to take the ferry across the Intracoastal Waterway to The Wharf to attend concerts, ride the Ferris Wheel, or do some shopping or dining.

Oh, and I almost forgot the most important amenity of the whole property. The new Margaritaville Resort will have a lazy river. That's important to the man who loves beer floats. You know what a beer float is, right? That's where you drink beer while you float on the lazy river. Now, that's something I think Jimmy himself would approve of.

Buffet's last words, according to his sister Lulu were "Have fun". Thanks to you and your legacy of "Son of a Son of a Sailor" style lyrics, I think we'll have no trouble honoring that request and your memory.
